In 1824, in dangerous post-Revolutionary France, 12 courageous young women between the ages of 19 and 29 defied tradition to offer good help--or bon secours--to those who needed it most. The mission of those first Sisters of Bon Secours was to provide compassionate, quality health care where and when it was needed.
Forty years ago, the Sisters of Bon Secours brought that mission to Virginia when they started of St. Mary's Hospital in Richmond's West End. Today Bon Secours Richmond Health System encompasses four Metro Richmond hospitals including St. Mary's Hospital, Memorial Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Medical Center, and Richmond Community Hospital. In addition, Bon Secours also offers home health, diagnostic centers, physician practices, senior living centers and a host of other health services all over Richmond.
